This is an 18 size Hamilton "946" railroad grade and railroad approved pocket watch. It is stem wind and lever set, has 23 jewels and is adjusted to five positions. This, along with the Hamilton 947 [which was the hunter cased version], was the ONLY 23 jewel model that Hamilton produced in an 18 size. The watch is housed within a very nicely engraved triple-hinged gold-filled case. The serial number of the watch is 442300, which dates it to about 1906.
